The overall dimensions of the painting are approximately 400 x 290 cm.
The fresco, nicknamed "Baroque Venice," depicts the return of the Bucintoro, the Doge's Venetian galley, seen from an imaginary balcony overlooking St. Mark's Square (and indeed, the Doge's Palace, the Campanile, and St. Mark's Basilica are visible).
The work is composed of three panels (a triptych), painted using the fresco technique known as "strappo" and marmorino (a technique typical of Venetian palaces).
